Military Adaptation To Recorder Karate

Submitted by Deena Smith, Colorado Springs, Colorado

I teach on an army post, so I modified the Recorder Karate theme to ranks, like Private, Lieutenant, etc. all the way up. Their names are listed on a large poster with an emblem. (Our recorders stay at school and we share.) I have had some students work hard to "outrank" their parents. Students reaching the highest rank are allowed to help others. Surprisingly, there has been little squabbling about someone being "bossy," I suppose since the students all know they had to work their way to get there.

The Department of Defense Enlisted Rank Insignias lists each military branch and their rank heirarchy.
