Marker-Colored Paper Belts

Submitted by Donna Mason, Boulder, Colorado

When I did Recorder Karate for the first time last year, I just jumped into it sort of unorganized in terms of the belts. Well, my students took over... The next day, one student had cut a strip of paper three inches by one-half, colored it with the appropriate magic marker, and scotch-taped it to the bottom of his recorder. The next day, several other students had something similar taped to their recorders (after I PASSED them on that level, of course!). The idea was taken up by the whole class/classes, and they were so excited and proud!!
